Compare the commercial grade, not only the INCI headline
Plant Chain BTMS is a high-active behentrimonium methosulfate grade, while BTMS50 is a blend with cetearyl alcohol and butylene glycol. BT85 and 22TC are high-active behentrimonium chloride grades with different stated active-content ranges.
Selection should account for the counterion, non-active components, physical form, desired emulsion structure, processing route and finished-product requirements. A blend may simplify formulation, while a high-active single grade gives the formulator more control over the fatty phase.
